Development league is a place for beginning ringette players to develop their skating ability and to become comfortable with the rules and skills needed to play ringette. Girls in Development or House League, power skate with certified instructors once a week and play a game against other Development League players once a week. Early in the season the rules are relaxed to allow the girls to get a feel for carrying and shooting the ring. A buzzer system is used to guarantee equal ice-time for all players. As the season progresses rules are added and buzzers are eliminated teaching the girls to "change on the fly' and the teams learn about the speed and flow that is part of the great game of ringette. Girls spend anywhere from 1-3 years in Development League before progressing to Rep style ringette. Players in Development League are guaranteed at least 32 hours of ice each season, an 8" X 10" action photo and a year end banquet. First-Time to Ringette players are charged only $199 for the entire season and returning players only $300. Often tournament teams are formed from our Development Players to introduce the girls to Rep style play. These tournaments are usually in Markham or neighboring ringette associations and the cost runs from $20-$40 per player. For the 2008-09 season our Development League games will be played at Milliken Mills arena from 8-10 am Saturday mornings and our Power Skating will be at Milliken Mills arena Tuesday nights.
